
The sea is one of the elements that characterize Sorrento, whose history is intertwined with the lives and destinies of its inhabitants. To emphasize the close link between man and sea, the 14th of May will be held at Villa Fiorentino the exhibition "History of the navy and shipbuilding on the Sorrento’s beaches from Alimuri to Marina Grande".
The exhibition has been organized by the city of Sorrento, the Fondazione Sorrento and by the Association of Research Studies and Documentation on the Maritime Coast, in collaboration with the Nautical Institute Nino Bixio, the Naval Museum Mario Maresca and the Sorrento Lions Club.
The exhibition is a journey back through time starting from the eighteenth century to retraces the history of the Sorrento seafaring and shipbuilding and its moments of glory through photos, pictures and ship models, paintings and nautical instruments.
Sorrento, in fact, can boast a long maritime tradition that has deeply influenced the history and society of the whole peninsula, deeply impacting the Sorrento coast cities, bringing to the fore a successful domestic and international shipping companies originating in the Gulf of Naples.
Sea and a man and intense bond, rooted in the soul itself of Sorrento, a love relationship to be rediscovered in a full and complete exhibition which will be on display until the 26th of June, from 10 to 13 and from 16 to 21.
