Get a small village in holiday mood, that of his patron, Saint Roch, a very popular French saint and known in the classical iconography together with an inseparable dog with a morsel of bread in the mouth. Get even the small streets of a small town, doors and gates of ancient palaces, open to the public for the occasion, and here is the perfect setting for the eagerly awaited fifth edition of "Acqua, Terre e Fuoco", an event that will take place in conjunction with the patron feast, from the 18th to 21st of August in the picturesque Maiano, a Sant’Agnello’s hamlet.
"Terra, Acqua e Fuoco" is a festival devoted mainly to the art of ceramics, a perfect synthesis of the combination of land, water and fire, a tradition for which the village of Maiano excels. The processing of the clay was in fact a jealously guarded secret, handed down from father to son. Besides the old Maiano’s furnaces, of which two remain only, were famous for the production of fireplaces and ovens bricks, also exported abroad.
To rediscover this ancient art, each year the city of Maiano makes a twinning with a city with a strong vocation ceramics. Thus, in recent years there have been twinning with Deruta, Caltagirone and Grottaglie, just to name a few.
This year is the turn of the town of Urbania, in the Marche, the ancient Casteldurante, whose reputation in the pottery manufacture enjoyed a real moment of glory in the early decades of the fifteenth century, thanks to the fine details and to decoration techniques.
The exhibition "Terra, Acqua e Fuoco" includes a rich calendar of seminars, exhibitions and workshops, as well as the famous meatball festival, a meatball that has 21 ingredients, including peach, chocolate, biscuits and mince.
The atmosphere, the warm summer breeze, the works of master potters and the goodness of the recipes are the ingredients of this unmissable summer meeting of art and tradition.
