A excursion to Pompeii, the city buried by Vesuvius during the eruption of AD 79 can not miss during your holiday in Sorrento.
The excavations of Pompeii are certainly one of the most fascinating and evocative archaeological sites in the world.
The eruption of Vesuvius in August AD 79 buried the city under a layer of ash up about 6-7 meters.
The excavations undertaken by the Bourbons in the late 1700s have helped to bring to light a perfectly preserved Roman city.
Most of its inhabitants, including many rich Romans who spent their holiday in Pompeii, died and were buried under meters of lava and ash.
