Piazza Tasso is the heart of the city of Sorrento. It was built in the nineteenth century on the valley that divided the city.
Looking out behind you can still see what remains of the town center: the old mills operated by water coming down from the mountains and the old wash houses where the village women went to the laundry.
At the center of the square stands the statue of St. Anthony, the patron saint of the city.

In one corner is the statue instead of Torquato Tasso, the poet, author of "Jerusalem Delivered" to Sorrento which gave it birth.
Like any self-respecting Italian's square too is surrounded by restaurants and bars where to sit quietly sipping a coffee and watch the transition.
