Epiphany in Sorrento!
Tomorrow, January 6 all waiting along the streets of Vico Equense on the centenary appointment with one of the friendliest and most charming Christmas events of the Sorrento peninsula. The parade of "Pacchianelle" is a sort of itinerant crib. Over 300 participants in costumes typical of eighteenth-century Neapolitan Nativity scene left the convent of San Vito, at the initiative of Father Gianfranco Scarpitta, superior of the Order and the organizing committee.
The route starts from the hillside town of San Vito, through Via Raffaele Bosco, to reach around 15 hours of the day of Epiphany, the urban center of Vico Equense, where, as always there is the crowd of citizens and tourists waiting for the show. Typically Sorrento are the gifts brought in homage to the Christ Child by women and children: citrus fruits, cheeses, pastries, nuts, fish. The most spectacular feature of the parade are by far the Kings for the magnificence of their clothing and the decorative elegance of their horses, while the Holy Family, as tradition, will close the procession with baby Jesus surrounded by fishermen barefoot, even this in honor of the seafaring traditions of our coastal
Very suggestive also the music of pipers. The event, sponsored since 1909 in the Sorrento Peninsula is a day of true celebration for children, big players in these celebrations and engaged in interpreting these roles, in Vico Equense, passed down for generations.
