Crapolla - Excursion to Crapolla bay

Crapolla is one of the many holy places of the Sorrento Peninsula. The name in fact derives from an ancient temple to Apollo that we have only few remains and it said that the Apostle Peter arrived in this small cove during his journey from Palestine to Rome.

A small natural creek, a charming beach where time seems to have blocked.

The descent starts from  Via Nula , near the Piazza San Tommaso Apostolo in the town of Torca, a hamlet of Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi. The point is easily reacheable by city buses depart from Sorrento and Massa Lubrense.

Follow the blue signals and after about 30 minutes walk between nature, near the river Rivo Larito,  and the junction with Via Cafariello, take left on the old patch, up to the staircase of 700 steps in the limestone that lead to the beach.

At the beginning of the descent you can admire the Galli islands and reef of Isca and Vetara.
From here you can also reach the church of St. Peter and the ruins of a small Benedictine monastery.

On the other side, however, stands the old defensive tower of Crapolla, built to face the assaults of the Saracens.
Finally arrived on the beach you can find traces of ancient greek-roman ruins.
