Ieranto Bay is located at the tip of the peninsula of Sorrento, close between Capri and the Amalfi Coast. it's a walk tour suitable for everyone and allows to enjoy one of the most beautiful wiew of Sorrento.
In the bay of Ieranto can be found traces of civilization dating from the late Paleolithic, about 13,000 years ago .. Sacred territory to the Romans, the name derives in fact from Ieranto Ieros, indicating temple of the Sirens that in Ancient Rome times became temple of Athens. In 1986, the Italsider who was the owner, gave the Bay Ieranto the Italian Fund for the Environment who started the archeological work. Since 2002 Bay Ieranto belongs to the protected marine Reserve of Punta Campanella.
ll path to reach the Bay of Ieranto start from Nerano, a small town in Massa Lubrense. From the square in Nerano follow for a few yards up the road on the right to find a small parking and the bar "Glocal" on the left.
On the right, you can take the path. After the first 50 yards of gentle slope you will face a crossroads: on the right you will reach the summit of Mount San Costanzo (signal marked in red and white) on the left hand continues to Ieranto bay, (signal marked in yellow).
ll path lined with stone walls, opens to offer an unmissable view of the Faraglioni, Punta Campanella, Costiera Amalfitana, Li Galli and Punta Licosa. Reached a new crossroad, on the left you could go to the Tower of Montalto, and on the right you colud go down to the "Capitello Beach". Here you can enjoy a swim in the crystal clear sea, or make a diving permitted provided it respects the delicate ecosystem. In fact this is the most protected zone of Protected Marine Reserve of Punta Campanella.
